Dulverton

Only 4.7 miles from Yggdrasil & Ursabear, about 11 miles from Little Poro, This attractive, small market town situated on the banks of the River Barle is popular with visitors all year round. Dulverton’s delightful streets are lined with over 40 independent shops, cosy cottages and charming tea rooms, pubs and restaurants, such as the multi award-winning Woods Bar & Restaurant located in Bank Square close to the Grade II listed 15th century Church of All Saints. Whilst in Dulverton you’re sure to marvel at the town’s iconic Town Hall in Fore Street with its elegant freestanding double external stairs and canopied porch.

Bampton

Just two miles away from the Treehouse & Cabin, but well worth the walk, head down the hill and up the bridle path (it’s a bit of climb) but the views are just stunning. Best to have boots on as it can get muddy in places and head over to the beautiful village of Bampton, there is so much history here, great local shops, fab restaurants and cafes.

Take time to visit the heritage Visitor information centre, found by the church.

Dunster

Take time to visit the village of Dunster as well as the National Trust run Castle. Set between the foothills of Exmoor National Park and the Somerset coast, Dunster is probably the largest and most intact medieval village in England.

Dominated by Dunster Castle, Dunster has a wealth of history to discover, including the iconic Yarn Market, the remains of a Benedictine priory, a Working Watermill, Packhorse Bridge and Iron Age settlements. It has such a fascinating history, Time Team Dig Village chose it as its first village to investigate!

Dunster is a very special and unique place. From the village, you can take a number of stunning walks into the Exmoor hills and it makes a great base to explore the rest of Exmoor and Devon.

Porlock Weir

This is one not to miss, stop in the village of Porlock, then head down to the weir, stunning place but do not miss out on this amazing toll road that takes in the most breathtaking scenery. Also try this section of the coast past the visit the smallest church in England, Culbone Church.

Tarr Steps

About 8 miles away from Yggdrasil & Ursabear, slightly further from Little Poro but this ancient clapper bridge possibly dating back to 1000BC can be found. It is a Grade 1 listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument.  It crossed the River Barle about 6.5 miles upstream from Dulverton. This is a fab circular walk.  Feeling fit? Then walk all the way to Withypool and back -  it’s beautiful.  Visit Tarr Farm for a delicious cream tea reward for all that fresh air and exercise.
